A word from our rector
Dear generous friends of Our Lady of the Cape!
Pope Francis, recently, was questioning all believers, with these words, in his special direct and delightful style: « Are we able to say THANK YOU? » Well, as the present Rector of this wonderful Shrine dedicated to Mary ─ a lighthouse for regular pilgrims and also those coming from the periphery ─, my answer is clearly YES! Yes, we are able, and even enthusiastic, to say thanks... Especially to people like you, who really appreciate our mission here!
All our pastoral team (priests, religious, lay people), are joining me, to tell how important your are for this shrine, chosen by our Lady herself, as you know. Mary, since 1879 and 1888, gives signs of her special kindness here, year after year. Father Frederic, O.F.M., an authentic saint and prophet at the origin of "the great marian Shrine of the Country" (s. John Paul II), used to proclaim: Our Lady will gratify with special gifts, for body and soul, any pilgrim coming along, with an open heart. Our priority? Clearly, we want to accommodate always in a better way, our visitors: for the next five years, we will improve the quality of our basilica, gardens and services. People coming from any path of life, deserve that!
Thank you to give hands to Our Lord, helpers of any age, situation, men, women, and whatever should be your contribution! Saint Mother Teresa used to answer, not without a loving smile, to those saying their humble gift, was just a drop of water. « My friends, don't forget: the ocean is made of drops of water! ».
With my deep affection and pastoral kindness,
P. Pierre-Olivier Tremblay, o.m.i.
